Executive Order on Wakes and Services

LGUs can implement executive orders that will help decrease the exposure of citizens to the virus.

Iloilo City issued an Executive Order (EO) which provides the guidelines in the conduct of wakes and funeral services.

The EO was issued due to a report from the COVID Team regarding an instance where a COVID-19 positive person attending a wake has resulted in 41 contacts, with 26 infected.

According to the EO, the wake and funeral services shall only allow attendance of the deceased person’s immediate family and relatives up to the third degree of consanguinity, those living in the same household as the deceased and a minister, if desired.

Likewise, all persons attending the wake and funeral service shall strictly observe standing health protocols such as wearing of face masks and face shields, handwashing and physical distancing.

A logbook of all individuals attending the wake must be kept indicating the following information: name, age, address, date and time of visit, and contact number.

Consumption of refreshment served during the wake or after the burial services, if any, shall be done with proper observance of physical distancing.

The EO shall be enforced and monitored by the local barangay officials, in close coordination with the police officers, and any violation of this order shall be subject to proper proceedings and/or sanctions.
