Provision of Vegetable Seedlings to Encourage Locals to Engage in Home-based Gardening

LGUs can implement home-based gardening programs in order to encourage households to have extra food supply

Through the years, the great importance of engaging people to get into home-based gardening is best felt at this time of the pandemic where many are not earning due to the quarantine plus the “no work, no‐pay” policy for most workers in the informal sector. There is now a better appreciation of promoting home-based gardening as a household culture. There has been a very significant turnout of city residents who have availed of the free vegetable seedlings provided for free. In order to ensure that nothing is wasted, personnel of the City Agriculture conducted barangay‐based monitoring so that the impact can be measured and the need for increasing appropriation can be justified. Currently, the City has appropriated P300,000.00 for the seedlings alone and extra supplies are being provided by the Department of Agriculture. The positive impact of this program will forever be a priority now that this has been a great help to the people of the City of Cabadbaran.
