Malnutrition and stunted growth remains a prevalent issue in the Philippines across different age groups.
The LGU of Mandaluyong coordinated 27 barangay nutrition committees to carry out a package of seven nutrition innovations.
The LGU counseled 3,700 lactating mothers and provided health and nutrition support to an additional 1,300 mothers. They also successfully rehabilitated 90.4% of underweight and wasted children. Additionally, they raised Php 341,500 for the Oplan Dagdag Timbang, Balik Sigla project.
Guideline 1: Come up with innovations applicable to all ages.
The LGU not only carried out programs for children, but also for mothers and senior citizens, according to their specific nutritional needs.
Guideline 2: Partner up with institutions and barangay committees.
The LGU effectively mobilized their nutritional committees per barangay and partnered up with schools to reach the children's beneficiaries efficiently.
